Britten composed ‘Plymouth Town’ in 1931 when he was just seventeen. It is rarely performed and only received its first staged ballet performance in 2013, the Britten centenary year.
Although a very early piece, the themes of the ballet: good versus evil; redemption; loss of innocence; realisation of adulthood are those Britten constantly returned to in his work.
Don’t miss the opportunity to hear ‘Plymouth Town’ performed in Britten’s beloved Suffolk.
