Prometheus Orchestra and the William Alwyn Festival.

The Foundation’s remit is to perpetuate the performance, recording and broadcast of Alwyn’s musical legacy. The October William Alwyn Festival in Suffolk marks the composer’s connection with the county having lived in Blythburgh for the last twenty five years of his life.It is desirable and highly appropriate that a festival be instigated in his name in which the full range of his creative work could be explored thus furthering knowledge of the composer’s achievements.

The  annual Festival was founded in 2011 by The William Alwyn Foundation and has included a range of solo, chamber and orchestral music performed in a number of historic churches in East Suffolk.

For the last two years the Prometheus Orchestra have been invited to give the orchestral concerts, which have included a number of first performances by William Alwyn and also by Gordon Crosse and David Matthews.

Prometheus Orchestra have been invited again for the 2013 Alwyn Festival and its programme will include Alwyn’s ‘Lyra Angelica’ for Harp and string orchestra.
